Sauna’s in Scandinavia

When planning my trip to Sweden, Finland, and Norway, I was overwhelmed by sauna options. I wanted something “authentic” feeling which to me meant sticking with the traditional saunas heated with wood-burning or electric heaters. I was also very much OK with paying a steeper price for a sauna with a view. I researched every single sauna I could find on Google maps, Instagram, TikTok, etc. to ensure I would enjoy my time and that I would know what I was doing when I got there. Here are the ones I booked and why…

  1. The Nest Wellness (top floor of the Downtown Camper by Scandic hotel) in Stockholm, Sweden - I visited on a weekday and only myself and 3 other people were there during my 90 minute appointment. The sauna itself is indoors and made to look like a birds nest which is very unique, it may have been this fact that made me book. The sauna is large and did take quite a bit of time to feel heated but it got the job done. There are showers to cool you down before going outside onto the rooftop for the hot tub. Honestly, I don’t remember this being advertised very well but this alone should be the reason to go. There was snow covering the trees and deck around the hot tub which was absolutely beautiful. The cold temps made the steam from the hot tub extra dense which felt cozy and really set the tone for a memorable experience. I could have stayed in this hot tub all day with the panoramic views of downtown Stockholm but seeing the city also made me remember everything else I wanted to see while there.
